The Boathouse Overview
If you are on the hunt for somewhere super stylish, utterly unique and in the heart of artisan Salcombe, this is the house for you.
Transformed from an old boat store into an amphibious house, The Boathouse is the only one of its kind in Devon and Cornwall. The house sits on ‘dolphins’ within a huge hole and the small gap around the house can fill up with sea water to lift the house up.
This engineering feat is also the epitomy of cool. Industrial-style concrete and timbers are softened with brilliant touches of colour, modern artwork and carefully considered fabrics.
Entering the vast courtyard through a private entrance, The Boathouse sits at the top of the slipway adjacent to the main house of Cottles Quay (this can also be rented, but will remain empty if The Boathouse is booked on its own).
Walking in at ground level, the open plan kitchen, high dining table and comfortable seating area is brilliantly industrial yet soft. The kitchen has all mod cons including the ever important Nespresso machine. The glass surrounding the dining area can slide back to give maximum light and easy access to the courtyard. We love that there is no upright in the corner to block your view!
Leading off from the living area there are two equally sized bedrooms, both with a double bed, stylish interiors and a velux window above.
Downstairs in the basement is a large shower room plus the cinema room. Put your feet up and enjoy the latest Hollywood blockbuster in total luxury.
Outside the large courtyard has a comfortable seating area, plus an additional dining table and chairs for enjoying al fresco dining and socialising in the evenings.
The slipway leads to the water and you are able to use the running mooring for a small boat. Paddle boards can be hired to use which can be launched from the slipway at high tide. Perhaps the croissant and newspaper run in the morning via SUP for those with balance?!
The Gin Balcony of the main house can be used and is accessible without going in the main house. This is the most wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by whilst hovering over the waters edge.
With regret, The Boathouse is unsuitable for under 10’s. No smoking inside. A dog may be allowed at the discretion of the owners.
